Very happy with my new RT-AX59U. I was looking in aMAZOn for other products and I saw RT-AX88U at 150 euro.

This is the ideal router, adviced everywhere here.

But, in 2025, what about CPU, radios, compared with newer models?

Perhaps BCM4908KFEBG is under FILOGIC 830: 12nm vs 28 nm or more, CPU power

Is a good buyy today this router at this price? is EOL product? (2018 product)

Sorry, RT-AX88U PRO

Sorry, RT-AX88U PRO
Ideal router for what use? What are your needs, desires and use case? Are you doing AiMesh, or planning to? What is your internet/broadband plan speed? Do you have any WiFi7 devices/clients?

Now I have RT-AX59U main router and RT-AX57 in AP mode and Rt-AX82U now in AP mode, for a wide coverage.
Main roputer was Rt-AX82U but I need at least 250 Mb WIREGUARD speed and Rt-AX59U does it. UI have a domestic network with some NAS etc. 1 Gb etherned all wired, and about 25 IOT device via 2,4 Hgz WIFI. I do not have WIFI 6/7 devices.
Except for WIREGUARD, RT-AX82U was doing well.
When I had tu upgrade, I just took cheapest device powerful enough, and RT-AX59 was.
But todayy I saw in amazon RT-AX88U -NOT PRO SORRY- at 140 euro and I asked myyself: Why this device is so cheap now? EOL? obsolete hardware? Perhaps CPU not, but perhaps radios are quite elod, so I put this post.
In general, what is better, getting newer models or getting these older models? With about 140 euro, you can get a new WIFI 7 model, with newer hardware -perhaps less powerful, I can not affirm it, after view filogic830, newer radios, less powe consumption... Is RT-AX88U now a tyyranosurus???

No one knows for certain how much longer any of the AX non PRO series routes will continued to be supported. Some have already been end of life'd by Asus. Wouldn't be surprised if Asus ends of life most of the AX non PRO series routers by end of year or by mid 2026.

The AX PRO series routers should continue to be supported for the next year or two (possibly three or longer) unless Asus decides to end support sooner. All depends on Asus themselves.

Keep an eye on Asus's EOL list for when models are dumped there and receiving reduced support or end of support.

I have an AX88U like 10 years ago, working as a main router with a AX58U and AC68U as AiMesh nodes. The router runs Merlin and uses Diversion and Skynet as services only. It briefly used DNLA without issues. This router manages 42 connected wifi devices on the network. Works like a charm, and the wifi coverage is amazing. It works for a couple of elderly people who are not tech savvy and cannot do anything on their on for the network but to unplug , still is very reliable.

If this is your use, go for it, even if it goes EOL, its a great router if your needs are similar.

I have a AX11000Pro and a AXE7800 as an AiMesh, it manages 22 wifi devices and 4 wired ones, with Diversion, SkyNet and VPN Client #1, that AX88U can do the same thing I need in my network, I payed more to "future-proof" my network but it runs very similar to mine, no real world difference. (Yes I Know, the AX network and wifi radios and blablabla, but in reality there's no real world difference as I have worked from both places)
