RT-BE88U - ASUSWRT-Merlin - Traffic Monitoring

HarryW

New Around Here
Hi, I have an ASUS RT-BE88U Router with the latest Merlin Firmware 3006.102.5. I'm attempting to monitor my monthly data usage through the "Traffic Monitor" tab however the data usage is very inaccurate and seems to report between 2 to 3 times more data than what is actually being used. I'm aware the router also has a built in "statistics" tab which also shows the traffic usage however this only shows the traffic usage per device and not the entire WAN throughput (so any traffic connected through the VPN for example wouldn't appear here).

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what could be the issue here? I've attached screenshots of the Traffic Monitor and Statisitic Tab (for today, the 14th September) for comparison. Thank you in advance.

Most likely both are showing inaccurate data on a device with NAT acceleration. What your ISP is logging is the only traffic that may eventually matter for some purposes. If your ISP have user accounts with traffic data - this is the one to watch.

The statistics on the Traffic Monitor tab have been known to be inaccurate in the way you describe for very many years now (although that's not necessarily the case for everyone) .

From my experience, the Traffic Monitor works fine and shows pretty accurate results (I compared them with the ones reported by external systems), but the Statistic tab is completely broken in the BE models and can't even properly detect the traffic types. It's related to a well-known issue with the bwdpi engine on the BE routers.
