Hello...

Question for the group: Is there a way, via the system log or some other means, to view activity with a time stamp and associated IP (of a connected device)?

This morning I checked the Traffic Monitor and it showed 7.33GB of usage for the day (this was at 8am). I looked at the Last 24 Hours view and see a steady stream of traffic on the 5GHz band. This tells me that it is most likely an iPhone or an iPad. The inbound activity appears to be nearly non-stop from 11pm to 6am this morning.

Naturally, no one has a clue. I was thinking that I should be able to look at the log and see active devices during that time frame, but what I am seeing isn't making which sense.

It is suspected that one of the kids had a little an "all-nighter", but I cant figure out which one or if something else is amiss.

Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I hope I posted this in the proper forum and in the proper manner.

Thank you

Chris

Merlins firmware has per IP traffic monitoring:
Web interface:
  • Enhanced traffic monitoring: added monthly, as well as per IP monitoring

I have been considering going to a 3rd party firmware on this router. I had been running dd wrt on the old Linksys/Cisco before it finally died.

My biggest issue with the Asus is the parental controls. They don't work and Asus is non-responsive. Otherwise, haven't had any issues and the signal strength has been great (our house is partial log cabin, but this router has had no issues with the thicker walls between certain areas).

I would not run DDwrt on your router as the performance will not be as good as Stock or Merlin firmware.

Merlin firmware or Tomatousb would be good non-stock firmware.

Merlin firmware is more or less the stock firmware GUI with extras and fixes. Performance is as good or better than stock.

Dd-wrt on the rt-n66 doesn't suck. Lol
You just don't have hardware acceleration. If you are like me who only gets 30/3 it doesn't matter much.
As far as range it seems about the same.

Anyway, it only takes a few minutes to try it out.
The rt-n66, ac66 and ac68 are probably the easiest routers to flash.
