RT-N66U 450 mbps

Is it true that the RT-N66U is only capable to hold 450 mbps for the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz bands at the same time? Which would mean those two can hold up to 225 mbps each?

Please SNB, enlighten me on this matter.

No, it's 450 + 450. That's why it's often referred to as a "N900 class device".

It may worth to mention that those 450 + 450 Mbps are the theorethical maximum for the router hardware.

1. I am not aware of wireless clients that are capable to use 2.4 GHz AND 5 GHz together to sum the throughput, they usually use one or the other.
2. The wireless capabilities at the client end, the operating system and the local conditions are allways limiting the throughput. So also the single 450 Mbps will never be reached.
3. With above throughput limitation, the router itself is capable to parallel handle data on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, two clients, one connected to 2.4 GHz and one to 5 GHz, should each be able to get the maximum throughput of theorethical 450 Mbps.

The above limitations (with maybe other numbers) are through for any multi band router, either 802.11n or 802.11ac.
