About once a week my RT-N66U loses connection to the internet (Web Browser shows "ASUS Wireless Router Network Map Page") on startup and I have to then unplug/plug back in the router and then everything works again. I have the latest Asus firmware. Is this caused by a power outage or something?

What OS are you using? This has been a problem with some of the Windows versions, especially XP spx where the OS will decide for some reason that the connection has been lost and turns it off. Oddlly, the web interface for the router still works...just no connection to internet. It seems to come back, as if by magic (IFM), but you need to go to your network settings in the Panel to turn it back on. One of the many reasons I spend 99+% of my time using Linux.

The indication "latest firmware" can be misleading.
The latest is 3.0.0.4.374.5517, is that what is in your router?
Please confirm or make sure it is.
Download it here: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=RT-N66U+(VER.B1)&p=11&s=2
Select OS = Others
After the upgrade, revert to factory defaults:
Advanced Settings>Administration>Resore/Save/Load Setting>Factory Default.
Then manual configure the router again through the installation wizard (do NOT load a configuration backup).
