RT-N66U vs RT-AC68U: 2.4GHz Performance

No_Style

New Around Here
I'm looking for some insight on the 2.4GHz performance between the N66U and AC68U.

I currently have an RT-N16 acting as a wireless repeater to an RT-N66U and I'm looking to replace it with something with superior 2.4GHz performance and attempt to switch to Media Bridge.

Am I reading this chart right?

Is the RT-N66U still outperforming the RT-AC68U when it comes to 2.4GHz performance? Did any subsequent firmware upgrades close the gap?

Also, is it true that I wouldn't be able to use the the 5GHz radios despite the Media Bridge being established with 2.4GHz radios?

Thanks in advance for the info!

It's kinda hard to get superior performance when both those routers are now capped at 80mw output with all recent firmware. I have used both of them and with the newer firmwares they both have taken a hit in signal and range. I just returned my new 87U due to the 5 ghz radio shutting down and device disconnects and picked up the Netgear R-7000 and all i can say is WOW major difference on both bands in signal and range and at least so far have had no issues. Keeping my fingers crossed.. :)

The RT-N66U's default before the cap was 100mw? And John's firmware allows us to return to that value correct?

I'm considering the R7000 as well but the chart showed that it lagged behind the ASUS routers. Did they make strides for the Netgear?

Yes i should have mentioned John's fork firmware it works fantastic on the N66U and there is good signal output with it, you may consider that as a option. As far as the Netgear Nighthawk R-7000 i am not sure what this router was like when it first was released because i have always bought Asus products and finally decided to try something different because of the way Asus is going with output power and using customers as beta testers. All i can say is i am very impressed this router reminds me of my N66U when they were using the old SDK5 driver it just has blasting output and flat out just works no disconnects and excellent streaming full HD on both my Roku boxes with full signal covering the entire house and beyond on both bands.

I also wanted to mention another reason i tried a different manufacture was because how hard it seems to be to get IPv6 working properly with Asus routers with the R-7000 its as simple as enable it and your done it just works no need to keep rebooting over and over and hope it grabs a v6 address i wont miss that pain in the butt one bit.

What is the difference besides supposed range gain and what not from having a higher power output? The rate speed of the n66u and the ac68u should be the same unless I am missing something when it comes to the power level
