RT-N66U Weak 5ghz signal

New Around Here
Hi

A few weeks ago i bought a ASUS RT-N66U. Everything works fine until one thing. I noticed that the signal strength with the 2.4ghz radio is much better than the one in with 5ghz. With inSSIDer i got -50dBm (2.4ghz) and -80dBm (5ghz) in my room which is right above the room with the router in it (one floor between). Also in the room with the router the 2.4ghz signal is a bit stronger.
I tried some things: transmission power settings, firmware upgrade/merlin build, regional settings, but there was always the same result.
The question is, is this normal?

5 GHz signals will attenuate at a much faster rate than 2.4 GHz as it goes over a distance and through obstacles.

It's very normal, unfortunately. I have a RT-N66U and when it was on the same floor as my laptops, 5GHz worked great from one end of the house to the other.

When I had to move the router into my basement and on one end of the house, 5GHz was pretty much near-useless for me as I'd have horrible signal strength for 5GHz and significantly better on 2.4Ghz.
