Run Merlin Firmware in Virtual Machine on PC?

I was wondering, is it possible to run the Merlin firmware in a virtual machine on a PC? Obviously the VM would have to emulate the Broadcom CPUs, etc. This would be for experimentation purposes purely. Has anyone ever looked into doing something like that?

There are quiet a lot soft router OSes like openwrt and koolshare that could be installed on a virtual host or x86-x64 machine, I wonder if Merlin could be capable of that?

You'll need a MIPS emulater then you'll need to emulate the driver modules. It's much better to use OpenWRT which supports MITS , ARM and X86, amd64.
