Samsung Galaxy S7 vs USB Tethering

I know this topic has been beat to death in this forum - I apologize to you all for digging this skeleton from back out of the closet.
I've gone over this forum up, down, left, right, forwards, & backwards. I appreciate all of the comments that I've read so far. Yet, I have failed to successfully tether my SG S7 to my RT-AC1900.
I've used the 4 latest firmware versions from Asus, the latest version of Asuswrt-Merlin firmware, and have talked with Asus tech support for a number of hours - still with no success. I'd be ok if I was told that my particular device (the SG S7) is not compatible, but I don't see any definitive documentation that identifies that to be true.

I can't be the only one trying this with the SG S7 - I'd appreciate any suggestions from this fine forum.

you prob are as the rest of them set on fire or got returned

it has to be the phone as i reg use android tethering and it works fine
