Seagate Personal Cloud SSH Access

Ariel Perez

New Around Here
Hi,

I have recently purchased a Seagte Personal Cloud NAS. With the previuos version, the Seagate Central, I was able to access the disk via SSH using PuTTY. That way I can configure Twonky Server and enable the web interface (by defaut it is hidden). Now I have realized they have disabled the access to the disk, but I guess there should be a way to do it ? Maybe with the default admin account for this kind of devices ? Does anyone know how to do it ?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Ariel

A lot late of a reply, but here's the secret sauce to enable SSH on Seagate Personal Cloud. Login with this URL http://personalcloud.local/?locale=en&appdev=1#device_manager-services
That un-hides SSH in Services in the GUI. All you can do there is turn it on/off and set the port under Advanced settings. This URL works to allow enabling SSH on the final NAS OS update released for the 1 and 2 bay Seagate Personal Cloud.

Then you can access it with PuTTY. admin and root user names don't seem to exist. Login with the user name and password you entered while setting the NAS up. Then enter sudo -i Password is the same as used to login with SSH.

As for what to do there, all I know is anyraid -c vg which creates the data partition if it's not there. anyraid -d vg deletes it. That should be useful if it becomes corrupted. Then after creating the data partition you have to login and format it. Then do a factory reset, go through setup again, then power down and restart.

Let it sit and "brew" for a while before trying to map \\PERSONALCLOUD\Public as a network drive. If Windows says "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." give it a few more minutes then try again.
