settings for router as access point for connected LAN printer???

New Around Here
hi guys,

have an asus rt-n56u:
https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Networking/RTN56U/

that I connected via cat6 on an upper floor as an access point to a Cisco DPC3825 cable router sitting downstairs:
http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/modem_DPC3825.html

to help the wifi signal strength for the better half's Galaxy Note 3 while she sits in bed. The change certainly helped! She is happy with it.

However, fixing that has created another problem....I also have a brother mfc-9010cn multifunction printer connected to the asus n56u via cat6:
http://www.brother.ca/en-CA/mfc/5/productdetail/mfc9010cn
http://support.brother.com/g/b/producttop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc9010cn_us

Originally it was connected directly to the Cisco DPC3825 via cat6 and it functioned perfectly. Now with the access point maneuver nothing connected to the network via cable will either recognize the printer or print to it. I can print to it wirelessly via either the Galaxe Note 3 or the Dell L702X (XPS 17) laptop.

So, although she's no longer pissed with wifi coverage in bed, now she's pissed because the printer isn't working -she's a teacher and often prints at home. I have to move next Saturday and the list of things I have to do between now and then is immense... but since she's staying behind until the dust settles with the new employer, if i don't fix the printer issue before i go impressing the new boss won't be what I have to worry about if you know what i mean.

Rather than reinvent the wheel I figure I could spend hours teaching myself....or stick my feelers out there to those who are "in the know". Any suggestions on where to start guys?

Thanks,

Coho

If I had to guess I would think the firewall is still on in ASUS router. Make sure when the ASUS router is connected you are not using the WAN port but are using a LAN port. DHCP needs to be turned off on the ASUS router also.

hi there,

wicked, it worked - THANK YOU!

I did still have the firewall turned on and after turning it off and I gave the printer an ip the printer was discoverable & printable via the LAN

So, as it stands, the printer is connected to the asus via cat5e and now prints fine...

and wireless devices can access the web when connected to the asus...

BUT i notice that when I connect my laptop to it via patch cable I can't get any internet access...

not that I will ever have reason to do so, i'm wondering if there's any suggestions as to why not?
