Shallow Packet Inspection for 2025

Since wifi 8 is not expected to be completed until 2028, maybe we'll see a few years of router model stability which should make your efforts a little easier.

If things go like in previous generations, I suspect we might see a "second gen Wifi 7" platfrom from Broadcom before that. They did it with WIfi 6 (BCM4912) and Wifi 5 (the move from SDK7 to HND 5.04). I could see them potentially launching a BCM4920, with either a node shrink or a clock bump, possibly an SDK update as well since kernel 4.19 is going EOL.

Broadcom typically announces new stuff around CES, tho I suspect we might already hear from Broadcom and Mediatek about their Wifi 8 platform at that time. We might even see a tech demo or two showing its potential. And I suspect Asus might already announce a future WIfi 8 model. They love to announce new routers 12+ months ahead of actual retail availability.
