SOLVED: Help requested with Brand New LG N4B2N NAS -- it won't boot

nasinva

New Around Here
Just bought a LG N4B2N Nas and no matter what I try it boots with the message "*Booting Failure SVC_CODE[1A_00]." I tried booting with no drives / or NAS config cd in. I tried with no drives and the cd in, I tried with drives and no cd, I tried with both drives and cd in. All four methods were attempted with a normal power on, and also the system recovery by holding down the S button then hitting the power button.

The NAS appears to be DOA... is there any kind of recovery boot image I can use on the USB port? Is there some other kind of recovery mode I should try?

I attempted to contact support via live chat and that system is down, so I tried calling and even though support is supposed to be open until 8pm central, their recording said they were closed.

Thanks in advance!

Hurry - return it for a full refund.

Opinion section:
LG not.

Don't buy a NAS at a retail store. Only the crap brands are on shelves there.

Yea... I hear you. I've been looking something "consumer level" to replace my painfully slow DLINK DNS-323 (which has been very reliable, just slow).

I picked this up for about $250, which in my opinion is a steal for a 4 bay, dual core Atom driven NAS. The build quality is actually really really impressive as well. The built in Bluray burner is gimmicky but again, for the price couldn't find anything similar.

I suppose none of this matters if it doesn't work. I'll probably see if there is some usb system recovery before completely giving up on it.

Any suggestions for a 4 bay NAS for around $300?

Synology or QNAP. Look at their on-line demos.
Also make sure you cannot get by with a 2 bay NAS. RAID is not a backup. So a 2 bay with external USB3 or eSATA for backups is a good scheme for home users.

LG pulled out of the NAS business in the US months ago. That is why you are seeing them so cheap.

Return the product to where you bought it if you can. Otherwise you may be SOL.

Thanks for the replies guys... thiggins, I didn't know that very useful information. I guess I shouldn't expect much support or firmware updates if I decide to keep the box.

BTW, I figured out why the NAS wouldn't boot. (it was my own stupidity)

I was testing it with a few spare drives I wanted to quickly test with and didn't take the time to screw the drive in the the hard drive rack. I couldn't tell when poping the drive in, but the racks were slightly longer than the drive so the drive was not actually connecting with the SATA connector.

On a side note... the LG N4B2 will not boot, get a network connection, etc, if there are no drives connected. I assumed I'd at least be able to access the web menu with no drives in, but that is not the case. It will just throw the "*Booting Failure SVC_CODE[1A_00]." error.

LG out. Interesting. They have big fancy end-cap displays at Fry's. Too fancy. Always makes me suspicious when I see that sort of thing.
