New Around Here
So... I bought myself an RT-ac68u last month. Love the thing.
Today, I bought myself a PCE-ac68.

There's just one problem: my connection speed is rubbish.

Prior to using the PCE-ac68, I had a small, USB netgear wireless-N dongle. I was pretty much always connected using that dongle at or around 450mbps (this is still connected to the RT-ac68u) on the 5ghz band.

Having now installed the PCE-ac68, my connection is at around 175.5 mbps. ALL THE TIME. Using the 2.4ghz band gives a slightly higher connection speed (usually around 230), but I'm trying to use the N + AC function to get the highest speeds possible (I stream HD video a lot).

I'm thoroughly confused.

I realise further info could be helpful, so:

signal is around -45dBm, according to inSSIDer.
I'm connected on channel 165, though I've tried pretty much everything available.
The router is in the same location it's always been, and I have little to no flexibility on its placement. It's up quite high (about 3m) though.

oh. I'm also using the latest Merlin build on the router. Beta 40.

If you want any other details, please ask - your help is greatly appreciated!

...problem seems to be solved.
I changed the 5ghz band to "auto" instead of "N + AC", and I'm now showing as being connected at 1.0Gbps.

...anyone able to illuminate me as to why that made a difference? Shouldn't N + AC be the fastest option? It seems like that setting limited me to N only... or something similar.
Now, using this setting, it seems like I'm connected at AC, but not with the N too...
...but at least it's more than 170mbps!
