Some ideas to replace ac87u

Hey guys...
I got my hands on an ac87u from a friend that works at asus. Running latest firmware.
My house is around 4500sq ft running on Comcast Blast (180mbps max). My room is on the 2nd floor but I have 2 more floors below the main level (making it 4 stories house). The ac87u is placed right outside my room which is located near the staircase that leads all the way down to the bottom of the house.

The current setup gets me poor connection on main level. I put an N66u in the living room on AP. By doing this, I get around 75-90mbps download (5g), and less on 2.4ghz. Main level is only one floor down from my router (maybe only 65 feet away).

Would getting an upgrade help? I was thinking the Asus AC3200 or Asus AC88u.
I read ac87 have lots of issues. Would upgrading get me better speeds if i place the router at the same location. I was hoping to get at least 150mbps at the living room without an AP bridge.

The new crop of routers will not necessarily increase range, particularly in 5 GHz.
More $ does not = better range.

Is the N66u wired to the RT-AC87u?
I agree with Tim's excellent advice.
We have full *wireless* service throughout a larger home (albeit on three levels) by using 3 access points connected by an Ethernet wired backbone to the main router.

I don't believe your issue is buying another router, rather maximize the use of your current equipment.

Thanks for the response.. Unfortunately no, the n66u is using wireless ap as a repeater. There's no way for me to actually hardwire everything unless I spent big money and ask a tech to fish wires throughout the house. I tried an av500 PowerLine adapter but that only gave me an output of 20mbps download, which is lot worst than putting a wireless ap bridge (60mbps).
