Spoofing IP address?

My IPS STB's uses multicast only when they detect IP address from specific pool (class A in this case). If it detects anything else it automatically switches to OTT mode which has lower picture quality and less channels. In my case this applies to a wi-fi connection as it is behind NAT. This is perhaps a fundamentally retarded question, but is there a way for the STB to see the "correct" IP address so it uses multicast instead?

Providers do things in different ways...

My TV provider (DirecTV) does the STB and remotes as a link-local subnet, and multicasts from there...

169.254.0.0/16 for the stb/nodes and 224.0.0.0/4 for the content across the nodes...

It does a bridge back to the LAN local to get the main provisioning and the channel list/scheduling..
