SSH / SCP Instability

Sure, but let's save that for tomorrow. I need a Valium and some sci-fi. :)

Sounds good -- it's late.

(BTW - thread is/was ok, so feel free to post here... and FWIW, the moving walkway is nearing it's end, and I'm worried - outside of a 4 year stint as a manager, I've been an engineer the whole time - still care about my direct reports, esp interns, and they've all done well))

Was doing some digging around - one thing that can help - when ssh'ing to the host, enable verbose mode on the connection - it'll give you a lot more information...

example - ssh -vv admin@192.168.1.1

This will give a lot more insight into what's happening on that particular concern - digging around the internet, DDWRT had a similar issue - so does this happen mostly on tomato, asuswrt (factory), or RMerlin's build?

Are you using Putty or another client (MobaXTerm btw, it's really useful, and it's free for personal use on Windows)

I've enabled logging in Putty, which is what I'm using. In the mean time, as usual, I've been trying all day and I can't reproduce the problem. :-)

It's hard to be sure, but I think the problem occurs more often on Tomato. Do you have a link to that DD-WRT thread? I'd like to take a look.

I post when I can reproduce the problem.

Thanks. I appreciate that.

I know what you mean. It sounds like you've done well as an engineer, and manager. I guessing you'll do well in whatever you do next.

Never happens when you're looking for a cause - lol... Refer to "Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle" - where the act of debugging a problem changes the state of the element under investigation - pain in the you know what...

I'll have to find that link, but perhaps a quick google search on "ddwrt and dropbear and crash" might get you close - there, it was a known issue, similar to yours, and they addressed it - now whether it filters downstream to folks that build off it - that's unknown...

We need to agree from time to time - as many of us have spun off into different orbits/interests - but if you look back, there's a lot in common...

And my guess is that you've done well... whether it's technical or process (and at some level, we need to do both, eh?)
