New Around Here
Hi All,

New to the forum and quite honestly I'm not entirely sure where to put this as it does deal with some NAS issues, but also with a subnet... and two WRT54GL's running Tomato 1.25.

For all of the below please refer to the diagrams below....

I want to make my NAS available to my subnet of 172.17.88.0/24. However, while I can access the NAS while going directly to the ip via a SMB share (I.E. //172.17.97.104), I would like to be able to see the NAS via something like the D-Link Easy serach utility, or via my iTunes as I would like to use my NAS to stream content to my Xbox 360, but also to be an iTunes Server.

Please note I've attached my Routing Tables Below.

Okay anyone know what ports the D-link DNS-321 broadcasts on? or which ports the D-link Easy Search Utility listens on for the DNS-321? likewise which port does itunes listen on for the itunes server?

Just Did,

No luck...

What's interesting is I can resolve the DNS name I set for it just fine and even do an nslookup, it responds to pings, etc...

The only thing that Isn't happening is it "auto displaying under my library" in Itunes as it says it should. And the D-Link Easy Search Utility isn't finding it...

soo I think I just need to figure out what ports to open for it for iTunes server and for the D-Link Easy Search Utility...

Any other Ideas?

Still no luck...

I still haven't figured this out... I don't understand what would not be being passed between routers... any help out there???

Looks like you're going to have to sniff traffic to see what's going on. Those apps could be using broadcasts, ICMP, ARP or something else that's not getting through the NAT firewall.

Why do you have two routers anyway?

Well turns out Apple (commies) disabled iTunes sharing over subnets, that being said that's the whole issue...

I have two routers because I'm in IT, and I <3 technology and Tinkering :p Besides it's the easiest way for me too keep ally my devices connected... cuz there are more than on those diagrams.

Anyway short of setting my NAS to multicast two IP's on two different subnets, which I don't think I can do without a second NIC on the NAS, I'm SOL...
