Synology DS109+ or QNAP TS-119 or Wait for 2010 Models

Needs (in no particular order):

1. Data storage.
2. File server to client PCs.
3. Backup client PCs to NAS.
4. Backup NAS to connected eSATA/USB drive.
5. Media server to PS3/XBOX/DVR/ETC. (DLNA/UPNP).
6. Speed.

The router is a Netgear WNDR3700.

Client PCs are connected occassionally wired gigabit, occassionally Wireless-N.

As between the 3 options, which would you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance!

Either will do the job just fine. They are very competitive products with similar performance. If performance was the main factor, the nod goes to Synology.

Read the reviews for both products on SNB and decide which best fits your needs. Bear in mind that both vendors have released newer firmware so visit vendor websites to see some of the new features added.

Also review support practices, warranty and repair/replacement policies.

If you need a NAS today, buy today.

Thanks. I've read both review on SNB, found as many other reviews as I could elsewhere on the web, and compared the specs/feature lists, and I'm still torn. I was hoping there might be a compelling reason to go one way or the other.

As for waiting, I have an NAS now that I'm looking to replace. So, I can wait. I just wasn't sure if there was anything in the hopper worth waiting for (QNAP TS-159 or something).

Thanks.

There's always something in the hopper. Both Qnap and Synology release products very frequently, almost too frequently.

Also if you are not in a hurry just thought you may want to know that Windows Home Server V2 is in private beta and is expected to be released by end 2010. Not that WHS is anything really exciting, but maybe, just maybe Microsoft will get it right this time..... I think they may because rumor has it that they will offer a Home and Small Business version of the new product. Something for small businesses who don't want to take the plunge into Server or SBS. I guess we shall see...
