Synology Hybrid RAID v. Drobo's

I've read that one of the limitations of the Drobo's system is proprietary nature of its RAID implementation, making recovery more difficulty. I was wondering if the same holds true with Synology's SHR?

Use the on-line demos for Synology, QNAP, Thecus.
Opinion: These are by far the best NAS brands due to their robust software and features.

Focus on features and maturity/stability rather than hardware and RAID issues.

Opinion: Drobo is way over-priced and bordering on being an antique as compared to the above.
