I bought an RT-N66U months ago but I just got around to replacing my older RT-N16 with the RT-N66U. Currently I am running the stock Asus firmware - but I may install dd-wrt or Merlin - my RT-N16 is/was running dd-wrt.
I want to be able to tether my iPad or iPhone (both of which have LTE accounts with Rogers wireless) as a backup WAN connection - we recently had a bad ice storm in Toronto and my cable/internet was down for six days. I was able to tether a PC to my iPad and then bridge this connection into my LAN which kind of worked but DHCP was not working. This should be much more straightforward to do if I can attach a LTE modem (or an iDevice acting as a LTE modem) to my router.
On the Asus website they show a procedure for tethering an Android phone . Is it pretty much the same procedure with iOS?
I see that there appear to be issue with this modem switching back to the ethernet WAN port when it comes back up but that isn't a big deal for me as this is something that I will only use on a (hopefully) very infrequent basis.
