Thinking of buying rtac86u. Couple questions.

Will the 5ghz range be a little longer than the 68u?

Also, is it correct their is no remote control of it? Will that be changed in the future? I like connecting to the app and rebooting my router remotely, when needed.

In my testing it seemed like the 5 GHz range was similar between my 68U and my 86U but the throughput was much better with the 86U. My test data is here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/86u-vs-68u-wifi-throughput.42754/

What do you mean by remote control? Outside of the LAN? You can Enable Web Access from WAN but that is not recommended for security reasons. The more secure way to log in from the WAN is by setting up a VPN server on the router. I think you may be able to set up a reboot schedule but I've never used that feature.

I meant using the app. Will it connect to it while off network? I read that it won't. Sometimes i connect to my router remotely to shut it off or reboot it. Works on the 68u but not sure about 88u?

And thanks for the post. It does look a little bit better range. Should be enough for what I'm looking for. I'm in small apartment and trying to get full 5ghz signal everywhere. I'm almost there on the 68u.

No remote management via app may be a deal breaker though for me.

Are you referring to the ASUS Router Android/iOS app? I've only ever used that app while on my LAN. I don't recall seeing any settings in the app for entering an IP address (I no longer use the app) for connecting to the router via the WAN. And, if I'm not mistaken, this would be using the not recommended Enable Web Access from WAN method. The 68U and 86U use similar firmware so I would imagine that if your method works on the 68U then it should work on the 86U.
