TOR Problem - 380.57 - ASUSRT66U

Zaphodb

New Around Here
I hope someone can help me with a problem I have experienced since upgrading to the above firmware.
I use the openvpn functionality of the router and some of the clients utilise this on the LAN. The clients that connect via the VPN should also utilise the TOR function. The MAC address is used to identify these clients to use TOR.
This was working perfectly fine before upgrading to the above firmware but now all connection to the internet is lost. If I turnoff the open VPN functionality, and just use the TOR connection to the internet is still not available, but if disable TOR connection is again possible.
Any ideas appreciated.

Is the device's time accurate/correct?

Please don't do TOR over VPN - makes it easier for unsavory sorts to do some map reduction and compromise the TOR network.

Not that I use TOR - but one must understand how TOR works, putting TOR across a VPN to a VPN provider makes them susceptible to attacks as a concentrated TOR node...

TOR generally works by being very distributed...

(Practical advice - TOR over VPN has to be very horrible performance considering all the overhead to your end-point)

I knew that the performance was reduced significantly but it has been fine for web browsing from both a 4G mobile and laptop LAN clients. Just for the sake of clarity I am using the in built openvpn server of the router. I wasnt aware that connecting vpn to tor increased risk to the tor network.
Wandering a little off subject here but I do this mainly from an android client to ensure both encryption and web anonymity. How can I achieve this without using both vpn and tor?

I think I may have found a work around to this problem, and got a little closer to the cause of the problem.
It seems as if the TOR client MAC data isnt being used to connect clients. I have found that if I disable the TOR server, reboot the router and client (ubuntu client), then re enable the allow specific MAC client functionality, no previous MAC data is shown. Once it is re-added it then works again. If I enable TOR for the whole LAN it works problem free.
