Unable to play videos directly from NAS

Occasional Visitor
I have some of my films stored on the NAS, and thought I could just click on the file and play it without copying it to my PC first.

Well, that mostly doesn't work! The playback is choppy, and most of the time keeps stopping for several seconds every few seconds.

I don't understand what the hell is going on.

I have Synology DS716+II and a pair of WD Reds 4TB running in RAID1.

What I am describing is so bad it cannot be fragmentation problem.
It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough.

Does anyone have any idea?

And what software are you playing it back with?

The DS716+II does support Plex as a server (with HW transcoding even), so run Plex client on the PC and might be good to go...
