Whenever I visit this forum on my PC with Firefox (currently 39.0.3, running on Windows 7 Home Premium) the browser hangs and eventually warns me about an unresponsive plugin. I visit several forums/websites daily, but this is the only one with problems in that browser (and no problems at all in Safari on my Mac or iCab Mobile on my iPad).

How can I find out which plugin is causing this? And what can I do about it?

Does the same thing happen on a different browser with the same system? If so, it could be your Windows 7 HP system. If not, the question is better asked on a firefox forum.

Try disabling Flash, since I can't think of any other plugin that might be running when visiting this forums (unless you have adware/malware plugins installed in your browser).

With the recent crops of security issues, I have now disabled Flash in my Firefox install at work, and have it prompt whenever it actually needs to run. Funny enough, for 99% of the websites requesting Flash, I see zero loss of functionality by having it disabled (the last 1% is those sites who use it for embedded videos). They must all be related to advertising, one particular source I wouldn't trust to access a vulnerable Flash plugin...

Set it to "Ask to activate" and will see what happens.

So far, so good!

some javascripts can also cause browser hangs. javascript at the moment is executed very inefficiently on all browsers so if you have javascript on websites always running it will use up your CPU. Some ads do use javascripts and flash.

I do use Remeber the Milk a lot in my browser and that is definitely heavily using JavaScript. However, when it misbehaves Firefox shows a warning that a script is causing troubles. When visiting this site Firefox warns that a plugin is causing troubles.

I get these symptoms on this web site when an ad provider's host is hosed up.
Which all too frequenty.

Flash-based ads need to die, like yesterday. They are a big reason why a lot of people are using ad blockers these days. (Punch the monkey anyone?)

I already use a fairly competent ad blocker (uBlock Origin), so I'm not sure it's actually an ad that is causing this.

Maybe it's the ad blocker causing the problem?

I don't use an ad blocker and run the latest Flash plugin with FF 39.0.3 in Win 7. I do see occasional adserver delays. But no hangs or plugin warnings.
