Unresponsive router

Every now and then my GT-AX6000 becomes completely unresponsive (via browser, no connection at all via putty) and very slow or has no internet connection at all. I found out that something is slowing it down on the external SSD drive where I have all my entware applications installed. If I simply unplug it, the router instantly becomes responsive again, and the internet connection is immediately established. What could it be?

All applications (see my signature) are installed correctly and have never caused any problems.

If you are using USB3 for the USB port, try selecting USB 2 in the config. There have appeared a few threads here indicating an issue with USB3 usage interfering with the wireless radios, 2.4 GHz , if i remember correctly.

Another possibility - If the ssd drive has been used for a while, it could need memory trimming and/or simple re-formatting and reloading all the files to remove fragmentation.

Remove Transmission and try again. The routers are bad as NAS and even worse with multiple connections and constant r/w. I can kill most ASUS routers with just specific size and content file transfer. If your router approaches insufficient memory condition it starts killing essential services and the result is what you describe. If it gets to swapping to USB storage - it's dead.
