Unstable Connection With New Modem

Kino

New Around Here
Hello everybody,

I hope someone can help me out here. I recently had my modem swapped from a RCA DCM425 to a Arris TG682 with Comcast as the old modem was found to be at fault for my recent drop in speed.

My problem is that I cannot seem to use my router in either wireless or wired mode with the modem. With my MBP directly connected to the modem, my connection is absolutely fine. But once I connect to the router via WiFi or cable, my connection becomes intermittent and unreliable. For a few minutes it works alright, though a bit slow, but then totally cuts out.

I upgraded my firmware to .220 and reset my router and set-up according to the instructions on the web-GUI (cloning my MAC and all). Yet, the connection is still being problematic.

Other devices that connect to the network include an HP printer, Airport Express, and eventually a desktop PC.

What am I missing.

make sure the new modem is in bridge mode , many new modems are modem firewall all in ones which will mess up when you use a router to do the logging into connection .

So far so good. Used the online chat client to contact Comcast and they set it into bridge mode. So far the router has been working fine for the last half-hour.

Edit: Might have spoken too soon. While things are better, it still cuts out every 10 minutes, but at least it is much quicker to recover.

So I added my Comcast DNS server info to the WAN tab but it hasn't really corrected anything. I was having troubles connecting with my Win7 PC and the diagnostic guide suggested a DNS issue. After changing that setting, the PC does have access, but it too is plagued with that sporadic problem.

Could there be a conflict with the modem having built-in WiFi? The tech said that once installed, the WiFi isn't immediately disabled but rather it goes off in a day or two. But I figure since the modem has been set in bridge mode, it should not be a problem.

Any other ideas?

Have wifi not powered off by win 7 in power settings ? I know I had that problem , power settings >advanced >wireless adapter , maximum performance . see if that helps
