Upgrade from 374.43 to latest

Hello all,

I'm running a fairly old version - 374.43 on an N66U and would like to avail myself to some of the new features in the latest build.

I see in the changelogs that there is a requirement to do a full factory reset and manually reconfigure.

Some questions:

Do I need to do the factory reset before or after the upgrade?

Is there any way of taking my config over without doing it manually :D

A manual re-configure will be a bit of PITA to say the least.

Thanks!

It is an RT-N66U. Running merlin build 374.43 - more precisely - 3.0.0.4.374.43_0

Just wanted to know if I could load up my old cfg backup or if there was some other method of getting my config across after upgrade.

Absolutely do an NVRAM after upgrade and start with fresh config. Many changes since 374....

The RT-N66U won't get many new features (old hardware and all) but the two links I provided will get you to where you need to be. I would still recommend a full reset to factory defaults after flashing the latest firmware and then manually and minimally configuring the router to secure it and connect to your ISP.

Thanks. I'm not looking forward to this - so many tweaks and small changes everywhere. Is there a way to export the config in XML or some other human readable format? If not i'm going to have to do screenshots of each config page to refer to.

The latest release 380.58 does appear to be ported to the N66U - in the Beta directory. Does the code check the hardware it is running on and disable features based on that?

Code:
nvram show | sort > /path/to/usbdisk/settings.txt

The non-beta is available outside of the Beta directory.

Each firmware is compiled for its specific model, so what features/settings to provide is determined at compile time. That's why there are different firmwares for each router model.

You really must peruse the links I provided originally. They should answer this and similar questions you have.

Thanks. It seems that for the N66U it is only in the Beta directory. Anyhow the deed is done, and while it appeared to work OK without clearing NVRAM, I did so anyhow. It certainly feels faster in the GUI - and I hope to use some of the new features - thank you for your help!
