Upgrading to Gigabit?

Not so far... I hope it stays that way ***crosses fingers***

Building the HTPC was much easier than I thought it would be. It was frustrating at times, but I think the next one will be a piece of cake.

Recently upgraded to Charter Ultra 100Mbps but have rarely actually been getting that speed. Sometimes during peak times it slows down to as slow as 1 Mbps  (which I find ridiculous.) All my equipment is the same.

Do you think this is something wrong with my equipment or is this something on Charter's end that a tech needs to adress?

I would say it is probably on their side if none of your hardware has changed. You could however make sure by doing a reset of the modem and router to make sure your side is good. I assume you have tested speeds over at speedtest.net. If you sometimes see high speeds and other times don't it is almost certainly on their side of the network. They probably have too many cable customers sharing a connection. My opinion is if you are paying for a premium service they should be giving you a premium connection.

Yep, I'm pretty confident now that it is on Charter's end. I top out at about 103 Mbps occassionally. Charter offered to have a tech come out and look at it but I am moving out of my apartment and into the house I just bought on the 30th so we will see if it works better then.

how are you assessing speed? Speedtest.net uses various hosts that differ in loading, responsiveness. Also, routes and hop counts to the hosts vary in time.
