USB-N66 incompatible with 10.8 Mountain Lion

New Around Here
Hi,

Is there anyone that have been successful using USB-N66 with Mac OSX Mountain Lion? According to the product page, it should support Mac Osx 10.4 and higher but the included client software crashes all the time so it's completely unusable.

I'm must say I feel a bit cheated that Asus claim great support but it still doesn't support a released Mac OSX version that has been out for more than a month now and the developer release have been out for much longer.

Anyone found a solution for this?

Thanks!

I've been using my mbp with ML on my 66u for over a month now. No issues what so ever.

What client software are you talking about??

Just tried installing on my iMac with OS 10.8 and the client software crashes not allowing connection to my network. ASUS says they do no support ML. Oh well...back to Amazon it goes.

Yeah, I started buying Asus products for their commitment to updated software, might have to rethink my view on them. A bit sad considering my previous liking of them.

Try the generic Ralink Drivers?

RT3573 chipset

Thanks for the tip! I've downloaded the drivers from http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01-1_windowsDetail.php?sn=5004 (Website changed changed to Mediatek) and it actually works (so far no crashes).

The 2,4 ghz works fine (even if I'm unsure if it uses all three channels or not) while the 5 ghz is extremely slow. I got 1 mbit/s on 5 ghz even if the signal quality are 80-100% on all three bands. 80-90% of the received packets had to be resend so there is a huge packet loss. The ping is also 10-15x times higher then it should (220-250 ms).

I'm using together with RT-AC66U router with the latest firmware and within a close range to the router. Any ideas of what it could be?

Hello finansvalp , odd name but if you are from Sweden I understand ....
Regarding the 5 GHz on the AC66U there are issues with the 5 GHz band
which Asus are aware of. But there are some things to check with the 5 GHz band setting , use a fix channel instead of Auto and the Channel Bandwidth
you can try different settings to see what better suits you , if I remember correctly 20 or 20 / 40 MHz is best for Mac devices.

I am using two RT-N66Us for my two separate home network (DSL and cable internet). A Mac machine running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 seems to work fine. I haven't run into any problems for the past seven months running ML on the Mac with the RT-N66U as a main router for either network but I use it mostly with wired Ethernet. iPhones, iPods and iPads have been connecting via wireless to the RT-N66U just fine.
