VPN problem?

I have been using PPTP server and OPENVPN server on Merlin firmware on RT-AC68U for years and it works fine. I have PPTP and also OpenVPN configured on my PC and phone. I was able to connect to my router and browse the internet freely without restriction when I had business trip in China in the past. I am now in China again, I am still able to connect to my router by either PPTP or OpenVPN, however I am not able to browse the restricted website e.g. google.com now except accessing my home intranet. I tried Windows 10 and Windows 7 with MS Edge browser/Opera/Internet Explorer with no luck. No VPN configuration has been changed except the regular firmware update.

Strange thing is if I connect my android phone to PPTP server on my router, I can access those websites on my phone browser.

Any advices are highly appreciated.

Maybe China's crackdown on VPN use is to blame ??

I doubt it because accessing from my phone by using same VPN has no problem.

It has been stated many times on this forum and elsewhere that PPTP is very insecure. You should therefore use only OpenVPN unless you use PPTP only as a troubleshooting tool and not to send sensitive information.

When your Android phone connects via PPTP, go to whatsmyip.org and see if your home ip address is showing (or if it’s the local one).
