Wake - on - WAN

New Around Here
I'm after a few pointers.

I've setup my computer to Wake on LAN which all works fine. I have been using an app on the iphone iNet WOL which without any issues wakes the computer from shutdown.

I've configured the router with the port forwarding to ensure the trigger turns on the correct PC.

The problem I am having is waking the computer over the internet. If my iphone is part of the network it wakes the computer no problem. If its not part of the network for example on 3g or on anyone elses network it won't wake the pc. I've checked in the logs on the router and it is receiving the command and forwarding to the ip address but it won't fire the computer up.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Ant

Try port forwarding rather than port triggers.

Routers employ a stealthing technique called WAN Ping(ICMP) Block, try disabling it.

I have port forwarding also configured but still having problems. I'm thinking it's something in the computer settings?

Thanks

iNet WOL suggests you try http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/woli.aspx

For the router, try setting the PC to static DHCP, so the MAC address points to an IP. It needs an MAC to be associated with the IP that is not assigned when the PC is off. Does the PC have UDP port 9 open on it's firewall?

If those don't work you can make the port forward to your broadcast address. eg. 192.168.0.255
However, iNet WOL says it doesn't support this setup. Wouldn't hurt to try.

There is a hughe topic on here about how to do this, possible caveats and general guidlines. I'll try to find it if you can't.
