WDNR3700 slowing down the entire network - Help!

I made two setup changes to my network during the last days:
1.) Upgraded the WDNR3700 to the latest FW
2.) Exchanged the patch cable from my switch to the WDNR3700. I had to cables patched together with a coupler and decided to replace it with one cable (CAT6a shielded).

My setup consists of hardwired PC's networked with a switch and the WDNR as an access point. I started to notice poor web performance on my hardwired PC's.
As soon as I unplug the cable going to the WDNR3700 (or switch it off) the web performance is back to normal on my regular clients.

I did check with an other cable. It doens't have an impact.

I suspect that the upgrade of the WDNR3700 might have something to do with this. Any tips on some settings that I could check? Perhaps the fw upgrade changed the pure AP setup?

Check your WNDR3700 settings to make sure you have a correct AP setup. Firmware update may have changed settings. Consider factory defaulting the 3700 and setup again.

Make sure you only have 1 DHCP server. Make sure your WNDR3700 AP DNS points to your wired router. Disable the 3700 SPI firewall as its unnecessary if behind a wired SPI router. Set static LAN IP for 3700 outside the DHCP server range.

BTW I have a couple 3700's in AP mode with the .98 firmware and no problems yet.

The FW upgrade did turn on:
- firewall
- media server

Switched it off. I can't confirm yet wheter it was the cause of my problem.

edit: more input:

went to one of my Win7 clients that has the network map feature. It is interesting to see how it shows the WNDR3700. I played around a bit with the WDNR3700 IPv6 settings. This resulted in the WDNR3700 showing up in different places on the network map. Once as a peer before the switch. So assuming Win7 talks directly to the Win3700 for whatever reason. In the other case the WDNR showed in between the switch and the Internet!! I set IpV6 to disabled. This causes Win7 to see WDNR as a peer.
I also found the UpnP settings. Should I enable it or not?
