Weirdest RT-AC66U problem

Hello!

I just bought a ASUS RT-AC66U the other day and the router was working fine during the first week or two.

A couple of days ago i saw (On my iPhone and iPad) that the signal strenght on the 5GHz network was really low (2.4 still going strong). As soon as I move 12 feet or 3-4m from the router it loses one bar. This has not happened before.

And here is where it gets really WEIRD.
As soon as I change something in the router, might it be SSID or activate VPN or change Password, the signal is perfect again for a couple of hours.

After that, it goes back to losing signal strength.
So after my reset of the router the signal was perfect and then after a day, it dipped again.

Does anyone have an idea?

Try setting it to a fixed channel rather than leaving it on Auto. Try a low-numbered channel, and if you still have issues try a high numbered one - some devices work best on one or the other.

Thank you for the reply!
I've tried all of that, changed the channels, the 5GHz network only have channels around 33 to 48 so I cannot choose a lower one and I've checked all the networks around my house and they all only go up to channels around 11.

And please note, if this helps understand what the problem might be, as soon as i apply any setting, the strong signal strength comes back.

I think many have the same issue and I do as well. Waiting for new updated firmware with the new drivers. Hopefully that will help. For now I just run a speed test when I see the speed drop on the 5Ghz I just hit apply on the 5Ghz page and goes back to normal.
