What is the meaning of this Kernel message "Tainted"

Tainted means it's using 3rd party modules not part of the kernel/not open source
 
Time I link that explanation to the FAQ, since the topic keeps coming up.
 
Thank you, I haven't installed any third party modules, so I would assume that's part of Merlin's FW?

The Broadcom modules are considered 3rd party by the used kernel. That's why you get that message. You don't have to install anything yourself to see "Tainted"

At least Forum Members will have a link to respond with, when the errant question is posted.
Unfortunately FAQ seems to be unread prior to many postings.
Similar to the Change log never being read, prior to "what changed with this update" postings.

;) I can remember a time, back in the long ago, RMerlin wrote a little funny in the change log(?), but I'm old and my memory isn't as sharp as it once was.
