What monitoring events to check on system?

New Around Here
Hi All,

Very happy with the Asus routers with latest Merlin firmware.
Running RT-AX88U as main node with 1 * AX58 and 1 * AX56.
Using Aiprotection, Diversion as well as Cloudflare DNS 1.1.1.3.

My question: How do you guys set the monitoring level and do you check these logs regularly?
I am not necessarily interested in where my family surfs to but rather how the router is behaving, lock ups, drops, restarts of services,....
What should I look at?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated to start.

Thank you

If your network users are all happy - don't waste your time. Keep default log levels. If something is not working with your 3x levels of blocking you have to eliminate AiProtection, local DNS filtering (Diversion) and upstream DNS filtering (Cloudflare) one at a time.

As far as I remember the preset log levels in Asuswrt-Merlin are Notice for "Default message log level" and Debug for "Log only messages more urgent then" fields. Keep it this way. If you install add-on like Skynet and you want logging Notice/Debug setting is required. In general keep an eye on what log level is needed for your configuration. If no special requirements - keep the default presets.

To answer your other question - log levels change won't affect router's performance in any user noticeable way. In case you worry about flash wear - it won't affect the lifetime of the device either.

What should I look at?
If the Internet goes down or I experience random connection failures, then I investigate. Otherwise, I just let mine do its job.
