What about stuff disguised to protect you, but actually tracking you. Take firefox for example, run netstat -tpeWc in Linux, start firefox and see it light up, just a blank tab. Good luck spending the next hour searching for what settings to change to false in about:config.
Could be health report, or forgery report maybe oscp responder or one of the dozen other things disguised to be protecting you from the ??? on the
Internet. That new security IP camera needs to phone home to check for the latest firmware or check its certificates /s Its a shame none of the consumer routers make it easy to see whats going on. Best not to ask questions for your safety. lol

actually the best way to track your network is through your router. Sure the connections are plenty with so many IPs but you can avoid tracking by blacklisting on input and blocking on forwarding which ends up blocking google and facebook everytime. However it is an effective way because a lot of malicious software do track you so it will block most of them but also inconvenient you with the regular stuff that people use everyday as those things track you as well.
