When using Merlin FW will update go official?

Occasional Visitor
As per title - didn't have the b*lls to do it but have to wonder when Merlin FW installed - are the firmware checks and notifications telling me of newer Merlin or are they still linked to the Asus official FW updates?

Currently using RT-AX86U.
