Which NAS

as newbie I need advice.

For which NAS should I go? DS111 or DS211j?

I'm not interested in RAID, my highest priority is apparatus longevity, reasonable speed and low noise level.

If you don't need RAID, then a single-drive NAS will save cost.
Be sure to use an external eSATA or USB drive to do backups, with or without RAID.
