Hi all,

Does anybody know who manufactures the chassis for the Asustor AS-608T?

http://www.asustor.com/product?p_id=2&lan=en

I'd love to get my hands on one and put in some ECC, a better processor, and run ESXi.

The things that I'm looking for are: ECC Memory, LED Display, USB 3, desktop form factor, hot swap of at least 6 drives external. It looks like the perfect chassis for my needs, but I don't need the Asus stuff and I'd like to add a little horsepower.

Any thoughts appreciated!

If you got this, where would you get equivalent software to what Synology, QNAP et al have?

Hi stevech,

The system I put on it is not of importance. It is the form factor of the chassis that I am interested in. As stated earlier,I would like to put ESXi on it.

Hi Steve,

I'm looking for a chassis that I can then use to build my own system. I like the chassis in the above link. It is probably holds a micro or Mini ITX board, but I do not know. What i put inside the chassis and what I do with it when I build is not important. I'm looking for the chassis.

Any thoughts on who might manufacture that chassis (minus the internals)?

Silverstone just launched a nice 8 bay case with hot swap backplane, mini-itx format.

If I was building a NAS, I would use this case.

Dennis,
What do you think of the Silverstone case versus the U-NAS case here:
http://www.u-nas.com/product/nsc800.html
I don't know if I am drawn to the U-NAS case because it reminds me of the QNAP TS-870 I have been drooling over for a while, if it is because it looks to have front to back air flow (as opposed to side to back), or if it is because each individual drive tray lights up. The Silverstone case does look to have more space in it though, and might even take an extended mini-ITX board, but I keep coming back to the U-NAS and I am not sure why.

Edit:
I found this review of the Silverstone case which left a bad taste in my mouth:

While this doesn't mean the U-NAS is going to be any better, the review pushes me to it a little more.
