Why UPnP settings are listed on WAN section?

It's my understanding that UPnP is intended to be used on local network only and that in fact, some vulnerabilities were discovered that allow some access from the WAN.

Shouldn't it be on LAN section or am I mistaken?

No. In the context that this is an internet gateway device, the purpose of the UPnP feature is to allow applications running on the LAN to automatically create "port forwarding" rules through the routers firewall (that's why it's in the WAN section). With this feature turned off you would have to manually setup the port forwarding.

Typical applications that make use of this feature would include torrent programs and multiplayer games.
