And even if it did, remember that the remote clients also need to respond to the router--and usually have low transmit power as well.

Your best bet for extended range is better antennas. The reciprocity principle applies, meaning they offer improvement in both transmission and reception. They do not "create" new power, but instead redirect the existing signal into more favorable directions for both transmission and reception.
