WiFi Slow Download Fast upload - N66U

ilgeor

New Around Here
Today I decided to check whether my router is doing fine, went to speedtest....and got horrified by results. My upload speed is ~ 3 times better then download (through WiFi). However, using PC gives me correct results with accordance to my internet plan .

I've googled a bit, but no solutions worked for me.

Btw, I'm on 380.57
QoS is turned off
I did a factory recet after installing this latest firmware and then reconfigured it according to my needs.

You could well have interference problems. Is this on 2.4 or 5 GHz or both? "Using PC"...does that mean an ethernet connection? Try switching control channels...if you are using 6, probably your neighbor is also so try 1 or 11. Cordless phones, microwaves and other appliances can cause interference as well. Is the router in a central location and does it happen up close to the router or just at a distance? Did this just happen with the firmware upgrade?

Hi,

Yup, PC stands for ethernet connection here.
I'm using 2.4 Ghz only, 5Ghz is disabled
I did channel review and selected the "unused" channel prior to testing speed.
I have a cordless phone.....but it's always been there

Also, router is not in the central position - there are some three concrete walls on the signal way (I guess, some time ago I stared a topic here about a noticiable SDK6 range shortage).

If I sit up in direct view of the router ... I still have 3x slower upload speed then that I have on PC via ethernet.
figures time:
my internet plan is : 150/15 mbs
my pc-ethernet speed is: around 150/15
laptop WiFi direct view: 40/15
laptop WiFi place of interest: 8/15

_
now I guess that is a firmware issue cause I remember me testing wifi speed in direct view a couple of firmwares ago....and it was giving me perfect results with speeds aroud 140/12 (though ping was slower in the old days)

Another dumb question...how about antenna orientation? Has that changed? Has the position or the cordless phone changed? You could try going back to the earlier firmware...Asus' archives go back a few versions if you didn't save it. I don't keep up with Asus or Merlin's firmware version numbers but if it is AsusWRT, you might do better with Merlin, John's or Gomes forks or get wild and crazy with Shibby or Toastman's TomatoUSB. Others here can advise you better on the former three. From what I have seen here, there is an impact of firmware on radio range. It is pretty easy to change firmware on the N66U so hunker up the courage and go for it (being sure to reset to defaults after each change).

Hehe, of course positions remained the same - otherwise, there'd be no use in such discussions;)
In fact, there were two reasons for asking this dumb question....see whether there is a known fix to it and notify the community - maybe, I'm not alone

Btw, if I was really into trying all firmwares and their forks..... I simply would ask this question, how bout that?

Did you reset to defaults and try again? I suspect some setting got messed up between upgrades.
