Will ASUS work for me?

Dizzy

New Around Here
A few days ago I installed the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 Router. This is the fifth router I've tried in the past five months. I've called customer service twice and am now waiting for an elevated level call back. In the meantime, I'm trying this forum for answers.

I have two PCs hooked up to the router via Ethernet. One is used for gaming. It is connected with a new, Cat 6, 25 ft. cable. I have another PC that is used for gaming that connects via WiFi. Specifically, I have two boys that play Fortnite. When the one PC that is connected via Ethernet, bypasses the router and plugs directly into the modem, the Ping stays in the teens-20s. When it gets plugged back into the router, the Ping is sometimes fine for the first 5 games, and then shoots up to the 60s. With this new 2900, the Ping starts and stays in the 60s, and the PC connected via WiFi is also high. I'd also like to point out, the default settings of each router I've tried, has enabled the WiFi PC to maintain Ping under 30. When I start tweaking the settings for the Ethernet PC, the WiFi PC suffers.

Does anyone have suggestions for settings? I just installed and ran inSSIDer to look for the least congested channels, as the customer service reps keep making me change them, and the 5GHz doesn't even show up. For reference, I had ASUS TM-AC1900 for years, and have recently tried the ASUS RT-AC5300, IQRouter, Orbi RBK50 AC3000, and now the ASUS AC2900.

@Dizzy, not many have the ROG routers on these forums, but I hope someone does and can answer your questions satisfactorily.

In the meantime, I think that if you can give us a few images of the settings you do have set, it will help many others to try to help too. :)

I'm probably wrong, but the RT-AC2900/RT-AC86U is not the same thing as a ROG Rapture GT-AC2900.

A few images you can provide will confirm one way or another very quickly. :)

AndreiV - Thank you, but I don't see how they are very different or how you know the firmware is very different from that link, but then again, I don't know which specific line item to look for that shows that they are so different.

L&LD, What specific images would be useful? There are so many settings, but if you're referring to the wireless ones, those images have our personal information.

@Dizzy, since you're asking for settings advice and your router, is confirmed to be much different than anything else most have here, include as many settings pages as you can.

For the personal information, before you save the screen snip, simply 'paint' over the info you would like to remain private (with a color that stands out so we know you edited it). :)
