Windows VPN or Other?

I know I can setup a VPN connection using the built in features of windows 7 but is it really secure? I mean it's windows. Are there alternative VPN servers I could use that are considered more secure?

The Win7 built-in VPN can connect using PPTP or L2TP/IPsec. The latter is more secure and plenty secure as long as you use a strong (secure) key or certificate-based authentication. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layer_2_Tunneling_Protocol#L2TP.2FIPsec
