Wired connections disconnect while PC sleeps

New Around Here
I recently purchased an n66u and replaced a dir-655. Apart from changing out the router, no other changes were made to the configuration of the network. I've noticed some strange behavior and I'm wondering if I'm missing a setting somewhere. I installed the most recent non-beta Merlin firmware before setting everything up.

Right now, whenever I wake my desktop up from sleep, it thinks it's physically disconnected from the wall. It sits there acting disconnected until I try to access a website or network resource. Once I do that, i get an error message about being disconnected, and then the network will figure out it's actually connected and behave normally. It happens every time I come back tot he computer and it's gone to sleep. This never happened with the dir-655.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is this normal for this router? How do I make it stop!?

Many network interfaces behave poorly when coming out of standby. I occasionally have the problem you describe, and in my case it happened both when the PC was connected to the router and when it was plugged to a network switch. My problem mostly went away when I moved from Win7 to Win8 (meaning a totally different network driver at the same time).

Check if there is any driver update for your network card, and see if it helps.
