WireGuard no longer auto reconnects upon server IP address change

melodies-2

New Around Here
In the following scenario:
  • Server has a public IP address that changes regularly. This IP address is correctly updated via DDNS. This server runs a WireGuard server.
  • Router connects to Server as a WireGuard client, using Server’s domain name.
Since firmware version 3004.388.9, Router can no longer automatically reconnect to Server. When Server’s IP address changes (and DDNS updates correctly), the connection simply breaks, and no watchdog mechanism retries the connection. As a result, I have several Routers stuck on version 3004.388.8_4 due to this issue.

This issue does not occur on 3006.102.4 or 3006.102.5 if Router is able to run those firmware versions. However, I still have a few units limited to the 3004.388.x branch.
