One last question... If I update the firmware on the router does AB-Solution survive or does it need to be reinstalled? What about if I do a full factory reset as is sometimes required?

It survives both as these do not affect the jffs partition or your plugged in devices.
To be on the safe side, always do a backup of your settings in the "Restore/Save/Upload Setting" tab of the settings and the jffs partition before upgrading / resetting.

I tried it for AB3 and found it works perfectly...2 factor authentication, no need for "less secure apps" settings, and routers stats emails ugh.either in the body of the mail, or as an attachment coming thro
Can you elaborate, I don't understand this. Is the router stats email function working or not?

Yes .. sorry if that confused...... router stats has always been working.... its just that previously i had set my gmail to "less secure apps" settings to get it to work...which obviously lowered the overall security of the email. Once reading the thread i posted earlier and applying the app password to the email config in AB3 i am able to remove the "less secure apps" setting and have the full security back

Great news then! So what does one have to do, as I did not read the whole thread there?

In the Gmail security settings, the 2 factor authentication has to be enabled. Once you have done that, you are able to generate 16 character so called "app passwords', which which you then paste into the password field of your application ( the password in the email config of AB3 in this case)

I'm posting this again, as it got under in related questions when I first posted it a couple of days ago.

Time to think about where to go with the next version of AB-Solution.

There will be an update for the pixelserv-tls addon in the next week or so and the goals are set for that one, but I might add something you miss or would like to have added.
For the main script, ab-solution.sh, I have reset my future goals to 0, so anything is possible.
Let me hear what function you want to see in AB-Solution 3.1 or 4.

Just to kill requests for that feature, I have had plans to add a WebUI with the help of nginx http server available in Entware.
I no longer want to go that route as I find that the current sshUI is more than one could ever hope for to control AB's functions.
A WebUI would complicate things for me a lot, with no added benefit in the functionality of AB.

Let's hear what your wishes are for the next version of AB-Solution.

Can I still use my flash drive that is used to store AB-Solution by simply adding another folder?

@thelonelycoder in syslog I see

Code:
Dec 1 18:20:01 crond[246]: user admin: parse error at /tmp/mnt/AB/adblocking/addon/update-hosts.add

Is this alarming?

Cheers,
Your update day is likely set to sunday. Enter (h) to change hosts file type, select the same type as you have and then change update day to another day.

Sure, it's your device.

Not many things i can think of right now :)

Maybe an easy wat to mail/download/... the ca.crt from pixelserv to import on PC or mobile
Or a way to import my own certificate in pixelserv in stead of default cert generated?

Ad-blocking wise i think it has all options i can think of right now.

Good points, altough browsers ought to give you that option.
Your own certificate needs to be a self signed cert, a fully qualified cert from e.g. letsencrypt would not work without a lot more configuration on the router.

I don't think this is remotely possible within AB-Solution, or with pixelserv either. But it would be nice to be able to block messages that complain about using an ad-blocker. In other words, build in an anti-ab-solutions blocker blocker.

These are served by the same server the website is served from. An impossible task as every website that uses it implements their own code.

I dont know how many people make use of the "follow the log file" functions. This may be one area that some additional functionality might be useful. Currently, once you are done following the file, you have to CTRL-C then restart AB3 again should you wish to make changes. Perhaps instead, return to a version of the log list that can be scrolled through, and add the ability to highlight and whitelist an entry currently directed to nil dev/pixelserv or elect to add a troublesome entry not in the hosts file to the blacklist.
