Updated my AC86U from 384.10 to 384.10_2.

The router's web interface is extremely slow after the update.

Will (have to) reboot (again) soon...
Reset and or install swap file with AMTM your model router has memory issues.

I already have a 2 GB swap file in use...

Just let it settle for a while. Just needs time. ;)

After an hour or so, reboot it then. :)

Looks like that.

Weird, never experienced this before, while I always install every new Asuswrt-Merlin (i.e., I have installed quite a few).

RT-AC5300
Version 384.10_2 dirty upgrade from the beta without a hitch...
QoS is back to normal!
File transfers to attached media drive via router usb 3.0 port are still crushing router performance for both cpu and ram use (values at or near 100%). This seems to have started in the .10 firmware cycle...
Otherwise, a great piece of programming! Cpu's run 3-4% when idle, with ram use reduced by 10-12% (44% nominal)...

I use ExpressVPN to secure every device on my LAN. Occasionally I also need the different location that ExpressVPN offers.

I setup OpenVPN Server alongside so that I can connect to it remotely from my iOS devices and MacBook Pro in order to be secure naturally but to also take advantage of all the wonderful scripts installed on my router.

I also have DDNS configured.

Still don't understand the ExpressVPN for every device on your LAN - as long as your router is secure and it is has the only interface to the internet (WAN), you should not need another VPN service. I use my OpenVPN from either my MacBook or iPhone remotely to access any of the devices on my LAN as if I were at home.

Upgrade AC3100 from V384.9 Final to V384.10_2 Final, via dirty flash. All appears to be working, except for the following:

  • Networkmap listing may be unreliable. (Bug in Asus's code) - RMerlin's Changelog
  • Under "Adaptive QOS" | "QOS", QOS Configuration was reverted to defaults and did not keep my customization settings
  • Under "Adaptive QOS" | "Bandwidth Monitor", any of my "Network Map" List clients that I normally had set from "Highest" to "Lowest" were all back to "Default" color
  • Under "Traffic Analyzer" | "Traffic Monitor", under "Daily", I have data from March and April, but when changed to "Monthly", I only see "April" Data graphs

As my AX88U has the problems above, after upgrading my AC3100 to V384.10_2, and that I could only add back a couple devices for testing this AC3100 Backup Wireless Router, these devices were still showing in my Adaptive QOS and Traffic Analyzer areas, with all data still present, so that is why the data above is still listed, but strikethrough to show the AC3100 DOES NOT have the issue my AX88U has.

As I wrote, the issue is specific to some models, namely the HND models like the RT-AX88U.

Running latest 384.10_2 since yesterday on RT-AC86U , fully loaded with amtm, diversion, stubby, Yazfi, ntpmerlin,spdmerlin,wireless_monitor,FreshJR_Qos, checkwan,vpn_failover, 2 openvpn servers and 1 openvpn client.
all running great with no problems , the only thing i noticed is that ram usage is much lower with the current version using around 74% while older versions were using 90%.
Thanks @RMerlin for all you hard work.

Have been running 384.8_2 for awhile and today updated to 384.10_2. The Network Map/View Client that has been broken for awhile (Asus issue) is working now. This version seems to be rock solid. As others have reported, my memory usage is lower (79% vs 90's% before) in this version even though I'm running more things than ever including the 2 newest scripts, ntpMerlin and spdMerlin. I do realize the way Linux handles memory differently so not sure if it's relevant.

So I installed 384.10 and it has the same problem with my Sony Bravia X930E Android TV as 384.9 does.

The TV frequently wakes from sleep when off (about once a minute) and opens a bunch of outbound network connections. These continue to grow the longer the TV is left off until eventually the TV complains the network is down which happens when it can no longer access the Internet for any reason (it maintains a constant link to Google’s servers). It’s been about 9 hours since I turned my TV off and there are 50 active network connections for the TV alone.

With 384.8_2 the TV still wakes up and makes outbound connections, but the connections close within a minute so the number of open connections doesn’t keep growing. They never go over around 25.

So I’ve been using 384.10 for nearly a week and while it doesn’t seem to close connections as well as 384.8_2, I may have been a bit premature in stating it has the same problem as 384.9. My TV hasn’t lost its network connection since upgrading to 384.10.

I haven’t upgrade to 384.10_2 as of yet. I’m not sure I will as I haven’t noticed any issues with 384.10 and _2 appears to be a bug fix release.

Anyone else seeing this on their router? Looking at timestamps to see if it happens around same time but ts random from what I see. I would also assume that the port is going up and down either on the router or the other end?? Anyone know if EXT switch port:1 is actually the port on the back labeled 1? If so I will trace it and see where it goes and try plugging device into different port and see if issue follows it.

Code:
kernel: eth2 (Ext switch port: 1) (Logical Port: 9) Link UP 100 mbps full duplex

Edit: If the port truly is #1 on the back of the router it is going to my 2nd gen firetv. Odd that its going UP without seeing it going down in the system log. Also not noticing when watching TV but that could be due to buffering and the fact that it "reconnects" before it notices.

Yes I get a lot of those. I've tracked mine down to Chromecast, Smart TV, and Google Home devices (5) that seems to restart every so often. They all do it most in the early morning hours ( 2am - 4am) likely checking for updates or sending data, not sure? I also see it if I reboot a computer on my network after updates.

Thanks, gonna look into it some more. Kid watching TV on it right now so somewhat limited. Apparently its not labeled correctly in the system log though so I'm gonna troubleshoot some more. I only looked because I was SSh'ed into the router to update spdmerlin and noticed it dropped connection to the router. Looked at laptop wireless and it dropped as well. Reconnected moments later....otherwise I wouldn't have even noticed.....Didnt see anything in system log to show link up/down other than that though.

Edit: Finally found it...Culprit was a Samsung Smart TV.....Port 3

Services like ExpressVPN (along with all the other scripts found here) protect your traffic from the inside going out as well. Your OpenVPN server only protects you from the outside in.

Starting with 384.10 both my routers have frozen several times. Never happened before. Also my son (playing games) is complaining that "internet disappears" several times / day. Uploaded 384.10.2 yesterday evening. Lets hope for the best.

This also happened to me and I believe a few other people with 384.10.

A complete factory reset and starting over fixed it for me.

I recently started dreading firmware upgrades because of the potential need to perform a factory reset and manual restore. I have three Asus routers to support in addition to my sand box Asus router. Since I've fallen behind several versions on all four, the factory reset and manual restore step will definitely be required now.

RIP User NVRAM Save/Restore Utility
You are greatly missed. Maybe one of the script writers can resurrect it from the dead?
