Well, decided to play around a bit with different Merlin firmwares.

Upgraded from 374.32_0 to 374.34_0-sdk5

IPTV and Internet stayed working, removed IPTV config and re-applied it via GUI again, lost Internet connectivity, did diff:

Couple of nvram variables have changed.

Code:
wan0_ifname=eth0 -> wan0_ifname=vlan
nat_state=2 -> nat_state=1
networkmap_status=1 -> networkmap_status=0
wan_ifnames=eth0 usb -> wan_ifnames=vlan
wan0_sbstate_t=0 -> wan0_sbstate_t=6
link_internet=1 -> link_internet=0

After changing back those variables via CLI, no changes, it wont work anymore.
Tried to restore config from previous backup (374.32), also no go.

I hope Merlin can comment this abit now...

As I dont see any way, why it didnt work, even if I restored those changed variables to previous state via SSH.

It does work at the beginning, untill you change anything IPTV related in GUI: :confused:

Anyway there seems to be absolutely no change to vlan config in nvram, so I am definately out of ideas now...

I really appreciate that you're carrying forward the SDK5 versions, since those of us with RT-N66U's that use wireless would otherwise not be able to take advantage of the newer bug fixes and features.

Thank you very much!

+1

Thanks Merlin.

Nice that you tried so i don't have to :D (haven't worked anything with the SSH on this router, so really didn't want to learn how to do it)
I also find it strange that the procedure that i posted a little bit back works, but as soon as you do a change it stops. And you have to revert all the way back again to get it to work again.
It must surely be some serious bug in the firmware that causes this issue.

Just donated 25 dollars as a small thanks! :D Gonna download them now for my RT-AC68 that i just flashed with your beta yesterday, so this is great news! Then I am going to flash my AC66 and do some speed tests, just for fun! :) Thanks again!

ac66u, I load the fw as normal, but for some reason it was not stable anymore.
I went from 374.33 to 374.34, and as soon as my wan pppoe would connect it rebooted the ac66u.
After a few attempts to find anything in the log I did a factory reset. Only thing what seemed strange was the log:
pppd[425]: Remote message: duplicate address detected
pppd[425]: PAP authentication failed
pppd[425]: Connection terminated

After I re-input all settings, it was not rebooting anymore..

Thanks for the new build Merlin and one question... Setting jumbo frames in the switch control no make a sense anymore and forced set to 1500 by default ?

This release doubled the connection speed with a far-away cheap-adapter wireless client, compared to the stock ASUS ...274 firmware.

Was also quite pleased to see an ordinary Windows-formatted USB flash drive, when plugged into one of the rear ports, become immediately accessible without limits to all Windows PC users with no work.

Also, in the rather unimportant department, was setting up an RT-AC66U user today with 6 guest networks, using all three 2.4ghz and all three possible 5ghz wireless guest network options. Was not able, on the very last (6th, 5ghz) guest network configured, to make the time limit involving 0 hours and 30 minutes update. The 5th guest network I configured, for 2.4ghz, took a 0 hours and 30 minutes connection time limit, but the very last guest network would not accept and write and maintain that 30 minute value. Used the latest Google Chrome browser under Windows 7.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but nothing has been changed in regard to Jumbo Frames support. If your LAN uses frames that are larger than 1500, then you need to enable Jumbo Frames support first.

oops...meant 149...Primary channel...and there is no option for 155...

setting the channel to anything other than 36 or 149...it uses 40mhz mode..somehting to do with how the channels are utilized....

Anyway...i already did extensive testing with all the channels...and 149 with power set to 100mw...seems optimal to me.

Gotcha. Yes, 149 should be fine, you have enough room for 80 MHz channel width on that channel.

No idea then. We'll have to wait for updated drivers from Asus.

Try changing the following option then reboot:

Code:
nvram set switch_stb_x=0
nvram commit
reboot

Let me know if it makes any difference.

AC66U

Same issue as v33 where iPhone 3GS can't connect to the WiFi network. Tried setting as Open with no security and still couldn't connect.

It connects to v32 connects fine. WPA2-AES security.

I uploaded an Experimental build for the RT-AC68U which was compiled with the USBRESET option disabled (unsure what it does exactly). See if it works better for you guys having USB issues with their AC68U.

Hmm, I can't seem to get the Overclock LED setting to stick. I select the radio button to enable, click apply and nothing appears to happen. If I go to another page then back to Adminstration-Performance Tuning, the setting stays on the LED setting.

There's a bug in the Javascript code preventing the Apply button from doing anything. For now you can manually set the LED button to Overclock mode:

Code:
nvram set btn_led_mode=1
nvram commit

To revert it back to LED control, set it to 0.

Once that setting is set, you will be able to toggle Turbo mode with the LED button (remember - toggling it will cause the router to reboot to apply the clock changes!)

I just cant find the message in the boot-log that Jumbo Frame is enabled(Packet size 4000) like in previous builds. BTW how i change manually JF packet size to 9k(for example) in the router ?

You can't adjust the frame size. It's probably one of the switch registers for which we have no public documentation.

on this fw
the router doesn't see my external usb2.0 500GB hd
all the others stock or yours see it fine

2.4G - [53Mbps Download] [35Mbps upload],
5G - [197Mbps Download] [55Mbps upload],

Thank you RMerlin! This fixed my AC68U USB slots; the Apply button for Overclock/LED setting is still not functioning, but that's less important to me than USB functions right now!
